Charles Carlson: his experiences in World War II, as told in his own words
On July 9, 2010 Charles Carlson sat down and told of his experiences in World War II. Charles, born and raised on a farm near Eaton, CO, served with the 3rd Marine Division. After his basic training in the states and additional training on Guam, he took part in the invasion of Iwo Jima. After the island was finally taken, he returned to Guam to begin training for the planned invasion of the Japanese homeland. Fortunately the Japanese surrendered before the invasion was necessary.
