Elijah Evan Edwards (1831-1915) was the first president of Colorado Agricultural College (now Colorado State University), serving from 1879 through 1882. The bulk of his collection is comprised of journals from several years he spent as a student at Asbury University, now DePauw. His work at Colorado Agricultural College is represented by six journals with ink and pencil sketches, a letter, a report, and a printed copy of legal documents. This digital collection, with materials dated 1847 to 1881, includes all of the journals, clippings, correspondence, and ephemera in his papers. Of note is a letter from Edwards to the State Board of Agriculture accepting the position to be the first president of the university and a report to the Board on the school’s progress when classes started in 1881. There is also a copy of the 1877 Act and Certificate to certify laws pertaining to the Agricultural College of Colorado.

Historic documents of Colorado State University, volume III: the presidency of E. E. Edwards can be found in James R. Miller Papers.
