This digital collection consists of maps dated from 1864 to 1940. Colorado is depicted as are areas within the state including Larimer County, Fort Collins, the Colorado Agricultural College, and irrigated lands north of Denver. California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nebraska, Nevada, Wyoming and Utah are also represented.

Of special interest is a set of hand-drawn maps created around 1864 by a young army lieutenant named Caspar Collins. Though the original maps are fragile, and use is limited, other formats are available to view and include negative photocopies of all the maps, as well as glossy photocopies of each individual station map. Included are Collins’ drawings of camps and stations once found in areas of the Western Plains, depicting sites in Wyoming, Nebraska, and Colorado. Also present is a Casper Collins biography and bibliography plus a typewritten copy of an order book dated 1862 to 1863 and kept by Collins’ father, Colonel William Oliver Collins.
